Monday, November 24th

What are you doing for Thanksgiving? Do you have any traditions? Go in to detail about your plans for the 5 day weekend.

On Wednesday morning we are getting in the car and driving 10 hours to Copper Mountain, Colorado. I'm bringing my friend Lucy Hall and this is going to be our third trip to Colorado together. We are also seeing my dad's brother and his whole family, and one of our really good family friends. We always have a really big thanksgiving dinner and this year we are going to have 18 people to feed! We don't really have any family traditions, but we usually always go up to our condo and ski. I am so excited to finally get back on the snow. I'm sure we will have one or two family game nights as well, and those always get really heated. One of my best friends from camp is going to come up and spend the weekend with us also. I am really excited for a fun-filled family weekend.

Go out and look up a what all goes on a resume website. What can you find? Include an example image if possible.

A website resume should be much more in depth than a paper resume. It should be easy to locate all the important information that any employer or college would need to know. It should also be attractive to the viewer and professional. It should also have a personal touch to it to show who you are and what your strengths are. Online resumes also make it much easier for an employer to be able to locate you and how you can help their company. Expressing your creativity and ideas help an employer find out who you are. This can give you a boost when looking for a job  because employers have a chance to already get to know you with your resume website.

Consider the quote below. What exactly do you think it means and how does it relate to Web Design?

I think this quote is saying that the way you design a site or device is not just about the visual appeal. It should make it easy for the user to navigate and work. Design is more than just how sleek or professional something looks. It should improve everything about the website or device. In Web Design, this relates in many ways. If your design makes it impossible to navigate then people will not want to use your site. People should be able to get what they need to get done without struggling. For example, social media apps like Twitter or Instagram make it very easy for people to do what they need to and they also look very nice. The links always work and you never have to question how to do something. The design makes it very straight forward and easy for the user.

User Experience: The overall experience of a person using a product such as a website or a computer application, especially in terms of how easy or pleasing it is to use.

Reflect on your learning this semester so far in this class. Think about the first day you walked in to this room until right now. What have you learned about Web Design? What have you learned beyond Web Design? Explain yourself.

I have learned so much about Web Design! Without this class I would have no idea how to code HTML and CSS, and there would be no way that I could create a functioning website. This class has taught me about color schemes, web design jobs and so much more. I feel like I have become so much more knowledgeable about the Web Design world, and I now have the freedom to explore more if this this is a field of interest for me! I have really enjoyed being in this class!

Tell me about your weekend. Give me details and photos!

I had a very fun weekend! On Friday, I went to pick up Ellie and we drove around trying to find our last minute Halloween costumes. We also dressed up and went to Chipotle for a three dollar burrito. After almost two hours, we finally found all the parts for our costumes! We were both flappers. We then went and picked up Haley and Anna and went to a Halloween party at our friend's house. The next day I spent some time working on homework and I helped my dad clean the house. Then I went out to lunch with Anna and Liz. Saturday night a couple friends and I hung out and had a movie night. Finally, on Sunday, I went to the JCC for meetings and to do some last preparations for FRC next weekend. We finished putting the name tags together and made sure we had all of our programs ready.

Tell me about your weekend. Share pics!

I had a really fun weekend! My parents went out of town, so I stayed with one of my friends from BBYO because I hate staying alone. On Friday night, we had a program with the other girls chapter in KC BBYO. The International N'siah (president) was in town, so she was at the program! She is from Toronto, Canada, and she is so awesome! On Saturday, Ellie, Amanda (the N'siah), Annie (BBYO Director) and I went out to lunch on the Plaza, and we walked around and showed Amanda around KC. We then went home and took a nap and ate bunt cake. Then we went out to dinner with all the KC council kids that wanted to meet Amanda, and then the whole council went and hung out at Winsteads. On Sunday, I had one meeting for BBYO and then I hung out with the boys chapter all day. We played football, watched the Chief's game, and then had a BBQ with all the families! It was definitely a BBYO weekend.

What kind of background do you have with Photoshop? Have you used it before? What other types of design and editing software have you used before? Explain.

The only time I used Photoshop was freshman year in Emerging Tech, and I do not remember anything about it. I would not say I have a useful amount of knowledge in Photoshop. I also have not used any other editing or design software.

Below is a letter written to the editor who wrote the article 'Enforcement of dress code creates negative effect' that your blogged about last week. Most of you wrote on your blog that you agreed with the writer. What are your thoughts after reading the letter below and seeing a different perspective. Are they the same? Are the different? Do you agree? Disagree? Explain yourself.
I can for sure see both sides of this issue. I do agree with Riley that some teachers enforce the dress code in a very rude and unnecessary manner, but I can also see that they are just trying to hold us to a professional standard. She did ignore the other side and that does not make for a very strong or reliable argument. Seeing both perspectives changes the way that this rule can be viewed, but for me the issue is still the way the teachers comment on it to the students. I do not know any girls that are purposely dressing inappropriate, but the way some teachers comment on it they make it sound as though that is our goal.

Monday, October 13th

I think there should be classes to help you prepare for life overall and classes that teach you exactly what you need to learn to prepare for the career you want. There should be classes about managing your money, applying for jobs, buying and finding a house, and other things that are necessary to know when you are older and living with out your parents. I also think that if someone, like me, already knows what they want to be studying in college they should not be forced to take classes that they will not end up needing. For example, I know I want to go into a medical field, so I should be able to begin exploring those fields and not have to spend my time being forced to take social studies and art classes that will not end up benefiting my in the long run.

Tuesday, October 7th

The following article was in the September issue of The Tiger Print. Read the article (even if you already have) and respond to it below. What do you think? Do you agree? Disagree? Consider all perspectives of the article while you respond.

I totally agree with this article. It happens way too often that girls are told to put on a sweater or jacket over their shirt that shows "way too much shoulder", or when a student is in a room that is colder than Antarctica all they are told is they "aren't wearing enough clothing." Yes, I agree some girls can take things too far and show off more than anyone wants to see, but if I can't see their butt then I am not worried about the length of their shorts and no one else should be. I also think it is annoying that dress code is directed at only girls. If they are so worried about our shoulders distracting the boys then don't allow boys to show their shoulders either, but in both cases that would be ridiculous. The rules for the dress code have been taken way to far. I refuse to wear shorts that go to my mid-thigh just because the boys around me seem to have no self control.

Tell me about your weekend! If you don't have anything fun to share, tell me about the city you live in. What do you love about Kansas City? Do you have a favorite place in the city? Favorite team? :) Favorite event? Explain.

I had a really fun weekend except for the fact that I had to fast Friday night through Saturday night because it was Yom Kippur. On Friday, I stayed after school to talk to Ms.Volz about Relay for Life stuff, and then I went home and watched TV and ate before the sun went down. Then I went over to my friends house to watch the Royals game! I spent almost all day Saturday getting ready for Rockhurst Homecoming with my friends! Then we all went to homecoming together! We went to Brio for dinner and then we went to the dance for two hours. On Sunday, I had meetings for BBYO and then I spent the rest of the day cleaning out my closet.

Tell me about your Homecoming weekend! If you didn't participate in the Homecoming festivities, what did you do? Share pics!

My Homecoming weekend was so much fun! My friends and I went to the football game and watched us kill Southwest! Then we all hung out for a little bit at our friends AJ's house. The next day Adam Houghtan and I went to Macy's to buy a tie that matched my dress, and we went to Dick's to get white clothes for our white out after party. I spent basically the whole day getting ready. I did my own hair and makeup. Then we went to pictures and from pictures and limo took us to dinner at Macaroni Grill. Then it took us to the dance for about and hour and then to Haley's house for the after party! The whole night was a blast and I couldn't have asked to spend it with better people.

How was your weekend? Did you do anything exciting? Share photos!

I had a very boring weekend, but it was nice to be able to chill. On Friday, Adam Houghtan came to my house to ask me to homecoming! He brought one of his foster kittens to my house to ask me. Then I went to the Miege game, but we got killed. On Saturaday, I helped work on the junior class float for the homecoming parade. Then I sat at my house and watched the Celebrating Joan Rivers special on Fashion Police for the rest of the night. That night my friend Matt took me and two of our friends out to dinner for his birthday. We went to Blue Koi and it was really good. On Sunday, I helped with the float some more and then went to a meeting for BBYO. I also went to help work on my brother's new house and spent some quality time with his puppy.

Friday, September 19th

Now that you are several weeks in to this class and have coded one (super small) website, what do you think? What are your thoughts on web design? Is it what you thought it would be? Is it better? Worse? What's your favorite part? What's your least favorite part? Explain.

I actually have really enjoyed web design! It seems to come pretty easy to me, but I think its difficult to remember each and every detail. My favorite part is the CSS and seeing how much it can change the website, but my least favorite part is also the CSS because it can be very difficult at times. HTML is very straight forwards and pretty easy to remember but it gets difficult to remember when and where you need divs, classes and IDs. As much as I disliked Codecademy, it was really helpful.

What is the importance of deadlines? How do high school deadlines reflect or simulate "real world" experience? Give an example of when you met or or didn't meet a deadline that was important.

Deadlines are very important. They are way more important in the "real world" then they are in high school. When you don't meet a deadline at a job they are way less forgiving than your math teacher after you forgot to do your math homework. Not meeting a deadline at a job could cause you to not close a deal, or make it so you miss an extremely important presentation. High schools do try to make deadlines more strict though. Some teaches will not be forgiving if you "forget your project at home", and they will not allow you to turn it in late. I am usually very good at meeting deadlines because I am very organized and I like to get things done on time. I cannot think of a time that I missed an important deadline.

Tuesday, September 16th

Reflect on this quote. Give an example of a time in your life that this might have been the case.

This tends to happen in my chapter in BBYO. For example, last year we were planning on having a fundraiser that would be a Mr. AZA (an AZA is what a boy is called in BBYO) pageant, but we did not start planning in advance at all. We started planning the week before, and we ended up getting very low attendance and having a very poor fundraiser. We made a decent amount of money because we priced the tickets really high, but the fundraiser itself was very bad. We also start getting the word out about programs too late which causes us to have low attendance at programs.

What did you do this weekend? Share pictures if you have them!

This weekend was pretty chill for me. On Friday my friends and I went to part of the football game to see us beat West! We then went over to one of our friends house's and hung out for a while. On Saturday I sat at my house all day and watched Shark Tank with my brother and his friend Kyle. Then that night I went to my soccer game to cheer on my team because I am still injured. Then on Sunday I went to the Royals game with my youth group to kickoff the term. The international president of BBYO was there, so that was pretty cool. The Royals lost though. I went over to my friend's house to borrow two of her dresses for our homecoming and Rockhurst homecoming! Then I went home and hung out with my hamster and did homework.

Below is one of my favorite quotes that I found on Pinterest. Think read and think about what this says and then blog about it. What does this quote mean to you? Elaborate! Feel free to give an example of tell a story.

I really like this quote and it is so true. People just say "I'm bored" to avoid having to do anything with their lives. If you are so bored, go out and see the world. Instead of sitting at home and watching TV, go downtown, go to a movie, do something you and your friends have never done before, or take you dog on a walk an admire the world around. Your life is not limited to what you are accustomed to doing. Try new things, go new places, and live an exciting life because in the end you are the only one who can make your life the best it can be. I like to live an amazing life by traveling and going to camp where I can meet new people and do things I can't do anywhere else in the world.

How do you express your creativity? Explain.

I express my creativity in many different ways! One way is that I really like to draw, paint and doodle. I paint and draw a lot when I'm at summer camp. I also like to express my creativity in my Jewish youth group. I like to help plan new and creative programs for conventions and just for the group. I like to think of new ways for us to enjoy our time together in ways we usually don't think of! For example, I am currently planning a program that is based on the movie Beauty and the Beast. This is a program we have never done before and I am really excited to share my ideas with my chapter.

What did you do this weekend? Share pictures if you have them!

On Friday, I went to the BV football game and watched us beat SMNW. It was a really fun game, and it was really cool to see some of my good friends on the field. The theme was USA and I got to wear my American flag leggings! On Saturday, I worked from 11-3 at Harley Davidson (I'm a cashier for the motorclothes department). Then I went to a program for my Jewish youth group BBYO. We had a bake off and a game night with the girls chapter, and then I went to a sleepover with the boys chapter. We made a Walmart/Mcdonald's run at midnight and bought matching cat shirts. When we got back to the house we told ghost stories until three in the morning. On Sunday, I had BBYO meeting from 3:30-7:00 and I did all my homework.

Friday, September 5

Kids these days have way too much access to information about everyone and everything in the world. They are all caught up in other people's business and never worry about their own life. All the kids look at their phones and wait for the score of the game or wait for the next picture of Kim K and her baby. When I was a kid, I had to wait for the daily paper to learn any information about the world around me. They all have their noses stuck in their little hand held computers, and I'm tired of it. Kids need to learn to go outside and play backyard baseball or ride a bike.

Tell me about what you have learned in this class so far. Have you learned a lot? Do you want to learn more? What do you want to be able to do by the end of the semester?

So far I have learned how to write pretty simple HTML code. I have learned to make a link, add a picture, make ordered and unordered lists, change font color, size and family, and how to make different sized headers. I feel as though I have learned a lot and it is already possible to make a simple website. I would love to learn more though. I want to learn how make websites look pretty and have all of the things that are possible through CSS code. I know we are learning CSS next and I am really excited for that!

Tell me all about your Labor Day weekend. What did you do? Include photos

Over the Labor Day weekend, I went to Copper Mountain Colorado with my family and one of my best friends from camp. We have two condos in Copper and there was a music festival there that weekend. We rode the chair lift up the mountain, hiked to the top, road Go Karts, played in giant hamster balls, rock climbed and saw some family friends from Breck. We also had family game night and family movie night. It was really great to get some quality family time and to see a friend I usually only see once a year.

Friday, August 29th

Read this small newspaper clipping and then write a blog post about it. What are your thoughts? How does it make you feel? Do you agree? Disagree? Explain yourself.

I agree with this article. It is very common for teenagers to not be aware of the world around them and for them to feel as though the world revolves around them. They sit at home and wait for something to come to them when they should be out doing something for the world. We are all growing up and becoming adults so it's time for us to start acting like adults. I do disagree with the part about us not having fun. I do think as teenagers we should be allowed to go out and have some fun, but when the time comes for us to be responsible, get a job, go to school, and work hard we should do so. I agree to disagree with this passage. Teenagers no to learn to do more for society and be more responsible, but at the same time we should be allowed to have our fun.

Tell me if you agree with this statement and then explain why or why not. "Images on the internet are 'free game' - if someone posted it, I should be able to use it."

I somewhat agree with this statement. I believe that if someone posted a picture on the internet and did not make any rules against the usage of the image with out paying(like on websites like shuttershock)  then you should be allowed to use the picture. I also believe that if you use a picture someone else posted then you should give credit to the person who posted the picture. You cannot just take an image and give no credit. I don't feel like that is okay.

Tell me a little bit about yourself and your life here at BVHS. What activities or clubs are you involved in? What year are you in school? What is your favorite class and/or teacher so far this year? What are you looking forward to this school year? Include some original photos from your phone if you can.

I am a junior this year at BVHS. I am involved in the JSU (Jewish Student Union), the NSHS (National Spanish Honors Society), and I am the Junior Chair for Relay For Life with Adam Houghtan. I am also on the Varsity Track and Field team. My main event is Triple Jump. The past two years at school I played soccer and volleyball, but I did not have time for those this year. My favorite classes so far this year are Anatomy and Physics because I love science. I guess my favorite teacher is Mrs. Scheurman... <3 I am really looking forward to school sports and being able to attend the games. I'm also excited to be able to spend more time with my friends during the day.

What do you know about Web Design right now? What did you know about Web Design before you walked in to this class? Tell me as much as you can about how web pages work. Try to use an example if possible.

As of right now, I know Web Design will be based on using HTML code and CSS to creating a working webpage. I now know a little bit about how to write code, but not much. Before I came into this class, I did not know anything about web pages or what we would be doing in this class. All I know about webpages is that HTML code is used to insert text, images, headings and links. I also know you can use HTML to chose text font, size and color. I still do not know much about web pages, but I am excited to learn about them in this class!

My hamster on my computer because we use computers in this class and I like my hamster.
